Gardens of Hope ~ Golden Shovel Award

“When everyone is looking for gold, it’s a good time to be in the pick and shovel business” -Mark Twain

Gold comes in many forms, and at the Joseph P Cory Foundation, “YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR WEALTH”.

Our Gardens of Hope in Schools and Communities are making an impact, and we appreciate the support received from our donors and collaborative partners. Congratulations to The School District of Palm Beach County’s Plumosa School of the Arts Garden Club teacher Mrs. SallySmollar. Mrs. Smollar was just notified she has won the Golden Shovel Award, also known as The Florida Farms to School Golden Shovel Award, which recognizes school garden projects developed during or sustained throughout the year.

We are so blessed to have worked with such an engaging school site, its Principal and Mrs. Smollar.Their garden has been ongoing, and we were glad to add to the project success, and included them in our pilot program/data collection project, overseen by the University of Miami’s MD/MPH program, implemented to quantify Gardens of Hope program success. Thanks to Mrs. Lisa Peterfreund and her family foundation, for being a generous sponsor, and making this come together!

Now is the perfect time to start a garden. You will contribute to the food supply chain, learn how to grow and eat nutritious foods, and you won’t have to go to the supermarket as often! Contact us and see how you can participate, or donate to educate!
