On Your Mark, Get Set, GROW!

Routinely, September is the time in our gardening cycle, when the Joseph P Cory Foundation visits their existing Gardens of Hope, and the new sites that will come onboard. The summers can be harsh in South Florida, hurricane season is still upon us, and honestly everything we planted was eaten, so there is much to do, and so we begin again.

Our prosperities include schools and parks and recreation, both ready and awaiting their revitalization and/or construction. With our dedicated teacher sponsors/supervisors, volunteers and donors, we go forward with excitement, and the promise that thousands of students, families, and attendees, will be educated and empowered to create optimal health and wellbeing for themselves.

We would like to bring your attention to one of our new sites, Plumosa School of the Arts, in Delray Beach, Florida. Their garden club is led by teacher Mrs. Sally Smollar, who qualified for one our small garden grants, to revitalize and scale up what previously exists at her school. Today, Joseph P Cory foundation, President and Founder, Nada Cory, walked the old garden with Mrs. Smollar to gain insights and direction for their soon to be, Garden of Hope.  If you would like to listen to a small clip of today’s walk through, and most importantly, the goals that will be reached by Mrs. Smollar through her efforts, please click on this link.

The garden consists of many elements; raised beds, vertical planters, and accommodations for sprouts, herbs, and plants. Beautiful to see, there is an area her garden club created, to honor one their classmates, who passed. So much more to report: we hope to keep you informed of the progress, beginning with a total clean out on September 21st, that will be executed by students, families and volunteers.
